Our credentials
Safe Workplace Culture membership and accreditation is a project by The Consent Collective. We are highly credible, expert and experienced at preventing and responding to sexual harassment. Our depth of knowledge and experience covers the criminal investigation and prosecution of sexual offences, efforts by universities to address culture change and prevent sexual harassment, and programmes of work to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.

Our work is led by our founder Dr Nina Burrowes. Nina is a trusted voice in this space bringing a grounded sense of calm that comes from years of navigating this complex terrain with a huge variety of organisations. A recognised national expert in the psychology of sexual harm, Nina has worked with both perpetrators of sexual harm and victims/survivors of abuse. She is the author of ‘The Courage to Be Me’, ‘Eyes open to sexual abuse. What every parent needs to know’, and the presenter of the BBC’s ‘Rape on trial. Is the jury out?’. Nina has an infectious enthusiasm for what is possible when we are able to create workplaces and communities where sexual harassment is something we all feel able to address together.

Our independent panel of judges will oversee our accreditation process and will each bring their own experience in law, HR, academia, business, wellbeing, health and safety and change making

Our ethos
We have a set of guiding principles that underpin every aspect of our work.

IMPACT We have a clear mission to drive and celebrate good practice in the prevention of sexual harassment. Our work needs to have a solid theory of change and a growing evidence base.

PRACTICAL We will provide practical, actionable guidance that supports our members to meet our accreditation standards.
IMPROVING With a realistic grounding in the present we have our eyes on the horizon, constantly trying to shorten the distance between the aspiration of where we want to be, and the reality of where we are today. Our accreditation standards will rise over time as more organisations keep up with, and push, the pace of change.
COMPASSION This is a human endeavour and it will not succeed if we expect perfection from ourselves or our members. We need room to grow, the opportunity to make mistakes and the freedom to find the lessons in our failures. The work needs to be both robust against abusive behaviour and compassionate to the learning journey we are all on.

HONOURING SURVIVORS This work is built on the stories of too many people who have experienced pain and injustice as a consequence of workplace sexual harassment. We will seek to honour those stories by driving good practice and working towards meaningful change.
ACCOUNTABLE Trust is at the heart of this process. Doing this work means practicing the skill of being trust-worthy. We need to be transparent in the ways in which we work, robust in applying our own standards to ourselves, and open to feedback about the ways in which we can improve.
